Thanks to the generous and productive nature of the area surrounding Sant’Omero every stay at the Grotte dei Saraceni Country House becomes a pleasant voyage of discovery through the authentic, genuine flavours of Abruzzo's culinary tradition.
The lands surrounding the agritourism establishment, and in particular with their olive groves and vineyards, provide an internationally acclaimed extra-virgin olive oil as well as the finest DOC wines produced by the winery run by the Cerulli Irelli-Spinozzi family.
A fervent passion still thrives today thanks to the replanting of the family’s share-cropping land.
A unique food and wine experience, in which the traditional dishes of Abruzzo are prepared by chefs who use only the freshest ingredients produced and supplied by local farms in the area. This ensures the authenticity and fragrance of every recipe, each cold cut and every appetiser listed in the menu of the restaurant that is attached to the agritourism establishment. The flourishing orchards produce sweet jams and preserves for a deliciously authentic breakfast, served with some of the most highly-prized and tasty genuine Abruzzo pastries.
Sant’Omero and the surrounding areas have a strong farming tradition, and yet the small inhabited area at the heart of the Vibrata Valley is also famous for its recipes prepared using baccalà (dried salted cod) and enriched with country fragrances that include olives and herbs. The traditional Festival, which takes place every year towards the middle of July, is in fact dedicated to baccalà (dried salted cod). It is a really lengthy and mouth-watering event that took place for the first time over thirty years ago in the municipality in Teramo, supported by the professionalism and quality of an industry that processes the cod fish and sells it as baccalà (dried salted cod) and is another important sector of production for Sant’Omero.
